Internship - Chromatographic separation of sugarbeet pulp carbohydrates

FacebookShare LinkedInShare
Are you a 3rd-4th year university or university of applied sciences (HBO) student chemical engineering with an interest in separation technology? And are you looking for a challenging internship or graduation assignment starting Q1 2020 for a duration of 12-20 weeks? Cosun R&D offers you an interesting assignment!

What are you going to do?
In your thesis / graduation assignment, you will support the development of a novel biorefinery process for sugar beet pulp to biobased products by studying a specific chromatographic separation.

Valorisation of its co-products is a major strategic aim for COSUN. Sugar beet pulp remains after extraction of sugar from sugar beets and is currently mainly used as cattle feed. COSUN is developing a biorefinery process to isolate various components from sugar beet pulp (see e.g. http://pulp2value.eu/) for various food and non-food applications. Thus, a higher added value is achieved for the sugar beet growers and residual streams from our factories are made available for the biobased economy.

Within this biorefinery process, various carbohydrates have to be separated from each other. In this internship, separation of specific carbohydrates using innovative chromatographic separation will be studied.

Who are you
You are a 3rd-4th university / university of applied sciences (HBO) student, with affinity for R&D for new chemical processes. You are studying chemical engineering or similar. You are available for an internship, for the duration of at least 12 weeks.  Furthermore we ask:
  • A pro-active, independent attitude and drive;
  • Affinity with experimental lab work.
  • Affinity with conceptual process design and techno-economic evaluation is a plus.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and/or Dutch
  • Knowledge of- and experience with MS Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint)

Where are you going to work?
